Drum Screens

Home :: Intake Screening Equipment :: Drum Screens

The Drum Screen is installed either in a concrete chamber or a steel tank for removal of suspended solids and rocks from water. The rotating drum is covered with screen baskets having fine mesh opening. The raw water flows by gravity through the inlet side bearing of the machine.

On entering the rotating drum structure, the raw water passes through the screening mesh leaving the intercepted solids on the inner surface of the screen baskets. As the drum rotates, these baskets with the trapped screening are carried over to the top and backwashed by jets of water. Retaining lips provided on the basket prevents any fall out of the debris. The spray header pipe is fitted with highly efficient spray nozzles to effectively backwash the screen baskets.

The debris is discharged into a waste trough for disposal into a refuse trench. The screened water is discharged either over an overflow weir, which is adapted to the particular hydraulic conditions or through the openings in the outlet side wall.

Macmet designs, manufactures and installs Drum Screens with a diameter between 1000 mm and 4000 mm with drum lengths between 1000 mm and 9000 mm.

The first indigenous drum screen has been supplied by Macmet for Rain Calcining Limited.
